Check your company name in our search box, which will let you know if it is available for registration. Choose your company type: Limited (most popular for trading companies), Limited by Guarantee (for not for profit and charities) or Limited Liability Partnership (often used for firms of lawyers and accountants). Make sure you also select a SIC code which describes to Companies House the activities of your new business (retail, consulting etc).
A Registered Office is the official company address that is available to view on the public register and will be used to send official documents from Companies House, HMRC and other government departments. A Registered Office address cannot be PO BOX or DX address and must be in the same country as your registered company. We provide a registered office service if you do not have something suitable or would rather keep your residential address private.
A director oversees the day-to-day running of the company. You must have at least one director aged 16 or over and provide the following details: full name, date of birth, nationality, occupation, service address and residential address. Your chosen director can also be selected as your shareholder meaning the same person can hold both roles in your company.
The shareholders are the owners of the company, but will not usually be involved in the running of the company on a day-to-day basis (unless also a director). The extent of the shareholders ultimate control over the company is determined by the proportion of the share capital that they own. You must have at least one shareholder and provide the following details: full name, date of birth, nationality, service address, shareholding and residential address. Your chosen shareholder can also be selected as your director meaning the same person can hold both roles in your company.
You must indicate if there are any persons with significant control (PSCs). This is someone who owns or controls more than 25% of the shares or voting rights in the company, or otherwise has significant control over the company.
